Taste the Goodness.

Established in 2005, Sunshine Bakery has grown from a being a modest family-owned business to becoming a well-known brand throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Sunshine offers a core range of White, Brown and Whole-wheat bread.  We pride ourselves on producing and providing the market with a quality, food-safety approved product, that meets consumers’ exacting standards in terms of taste, freshness and shelf-life.

At Sunshine we understand that our priority is for our customers to receive great quality, fresh bread, on a daily basis, wherever they are.  Our large distribution fleet ensures that a Sunshine truck is never far away, with deliveries being done from either our Pietermaritzburg or Durban bakery, or from one of our depots throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal.   Sunshine delivers to a broad range of customers, no matter how big or small; from tuck shops to large supermarkets, rural to urban areas.  Sunshine also has experience in supplying non-retail customers including those involved in hospitality and government contracts.

Sunshine offers a core range of White, Brown and Whole-wheat bread.  We pride ourselves on producing and providing the market with a quality, food-safety approved product, that meets consumers’ exacting standards in terms of taste, freshness and shelf-life. Sunshine was the first bread in South Africa to be enriched with Vitamin D, vital for the promotion of healthy bones and teeth. Sunshine bread is Halaal and is certified by SANHA.

In-process quality checks and stringent adherence to food safety policies throughout our manufacturing processes ensure that our bread is produced to the highest standards recognised in South Africa and enables us to offer consistent supply and quality of bread.

Sunshine Bakery is committed to making a sustainable contribution to the economy through investment and creation of employment opportunities.  A home-grown brand, Sunshine is passionate about contributing to, and being involved with, the communities it serves.  This is achieved through supporting smaller contractors from the surrounding areas and also by supporting many local NPOs in their initiatives.

Sunshine seeks to minimise its environmental footprint and caring for the environment forms part and parcel of our everyday business activities.  We are committed to keeping waste to a minimum, complying with legislation and regulations, using water and energy efficiently, recycling and measuring our performance against set metrics.

Sunshine views its environmental custodianship as being from Cradle to Grave and encourages the recycling of bread bags through its annual schools’ competition. Learners are educated about the importance and benefits of recycling, and by bringing their empty Sunshine Bread bags to school for recycling, their schools receive money, thereby benefiting each school directly. The bread bags collected are given to NPOs who use them to create early childhood development toys and also items such as bags and plant holders.

The growth that Sunshine has achieved so far is testimony to our focus on quality, product and customers, as well as our ability to be flexible and agile.

Our aim is not only to be a sustainable business, but also to live up to the responsibility we have towards the community and our employees. We are focused on operational and organisational growth and increasing our position as a major employer in the community.

The philosophy is to stay ahead of demand through enhancing and developing manufacturing capacity and critical skills, including operational excellence, people management and food safety best practices.

Sunshine is well positioned to carry on baking brightly into the future!
